Dear Hayat, Sami, Maya, Diala and Karim, My heart goes out to you. The passing of your beloved Ramzi – husband, father and family patriarch – is a devastating loss. Please accept my most loving and prayerful sympathies. Ramzi laid up his treasure in the hearts of his friends. Having been close to him since 1975 when he made me a Director of R H Sanbar Consultants UK at 96 Park Lane, I came to love his ever searching spirit, his joie de vivre, his entrepreneurial genius, his generosity of heart and the subtle nuances of his visionary character for over 45 years. Ramzi was truly a sui generis renaissance man. No one was, or ever will be, like him. Last night after hearing the sad news I reread the short book I wrote about Ramzi some five years ago. It brought tears of both sadness and laughter to my eyes. Yet my words did not quite capture his complex, quicksilver spirit of adventure. He was too big, bold and original a leader to be adequately portrayed by the pen of a mere mortal writer! Ramzi’s deepest passions were distilled in his love for you, his nearest and dearest family. I am sure his loss will be unbearable for you right now. But I hope it helps just a little for you to know that Ramzi’s many friends are mourning him with you, sharing in your grief, and cherishing our precious memories of him as a great and remarkable man. May God comfort you in your grief as he now welcomes Ramzi into His Kingdom Again with all my loving and deepest sympathy, Jonathan Aitken
